Access 2010: The Missing Manual

For anyone who has updated from an older version of Microsoft Access and have been overwhelmed by the Office ribbons and new features there is a great book that covers these changes starting right off in the Introduction.   The Access 2010: The Missing Manual is a great read for anyone wanting to get started in Access database development.

What I really like about this book is the author, Matthew MacDonald, doesn’t take the typical teaching approach of showing how to modify the Northwind database as is typical with other Access books.  Instead the book focuses on the fundamentals of Access development.

The Access 2010: The Missing Manual is a much better starting point than the Access Bibles which provide a wealth of information, but can be overwhelming when just starting out.

Go the F**k to Sleep a Childrens Book for the Parents

Wow.  I just had the pleasure of reading Go the F**k to Sleep  written by Adam Mansbach and illustrated by  Ricardo Cortés.  Hilarious.  I must be honest, after reading a news article on the viral outbreak of the leaked pdf, I could not help but search for a copy on the internet.  After a few minutes wading through various websites, some not so trustworthy, I found the pdf to download.  Sorry folks, I will not link to the pdf.  All I can say is preorder the book as it is well worth it.

Here is an exerpt from the book….

The cats nestle close to their kittens now.
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cozy and arm in your bed, my dear.
Please go the f**k to sleep.

The windows ar dark in the town, child.
The whales huddle down in the deep.
I’ll read you one very last book if you swear
You’ll go the f**k to sleep.

This book will hit home with so many parents even if your child sleeps, I am sure you can find a parallel in your own life to relate with Adam’s story.  This is written for parents in the form of a children’s book so be warned if you purchase this book to keep it out of your young reader’s hands.  I’m sure when you become a grandparent you can pass the book down to your children.  Oh how life comes full circle…..
